Camera troubles

So our camera is somewhere in Istanbul. My mom and dad borrowed it on one of their trips while they were here and it never came back from Istanbul. Therefore, we have no pictures for you and may not for a little while. Mom and Dad say they’re going to buy me a fancy new camera and I’m really excited because it’s going to be a digital SLR camera, which I kind of always dreamed a little bit of having but never really thought it would be an option until we at least had a much better income (out of grad school and out of Europe). But since things tend to get stolen in the mail here, we have to wait for a sibling visit or something so it can be delivered a little more securely. Thus it may be a couple months.

Ivan’s Ipod takes pictures but they’re not very good so we’re trying to decide if it’s worth investing in a really cheap point and shoot for the interim, but so far I haven’t been able to convince Ivan :) All electronics are about half again as expensive here as in the US, so the cheapest point and shoot I’ve seen is $80 or $90. I haven’t actually gone into the store, yet though, so maybe they have cheaper ones than in the adds. Anyway, long story short, no camera for a little bit means no pictures for a while. Sorry.

Evelyn Pictures

Here are a few pictures. I think I’ll tell the whole story in another post, but here’s a quick visual overview.

Here’s little Evelyn just after being born. She came quick and was 6 lb. 10 oz. and 19 in. long.

Here she is in the NICU. She quit breathing when she was only a couple hours old, so they sent her to Neonatal Intensive Care for a day to be watched a little more carefully. She’s holding her Grandpa’s finger and has a little tiny IV board on her right arm. She’s pretty cute, even in intensive care.

Grandma, Grandpa, Avery and all the aunts and uncles came to visit in the hospital when she came back to the newborn nursery. Avery was soooooo excited!

Kisses from Avery

We came home from the hospital on Monday. Evelyn was almost too small for the car seat. We tightened the straps as small as they went and they were still a little loose. The hat we added at home. Aunt Linden crocheted it and sent it in the mail.

Avery loves to give Evelyn hugs and kisses. She says “hode er?” and wants to hold her all the time.

Here’s a picture of how she looks most of the day – sleeping in her bouncer. She’s a sleepy baby and we think she’s pretty adorable.

So there you go. Five days of life in pictures. I’ll have more details later, but for now the important part is done right?

For anyone that’s interested, as a New Year’s resolution I decided I wanted to get better at taking pictures. Mostly I stumbled upon an idea on the blog Winos and Foodies called Project 365 and thought it was a neat idea. The project is just that you take a picture everyday and post it somewhere, preferably where other people can see it and with some kind of caption explaining it.

I’ve missed three days so far, and my pictures are kind of pathetic some days, but it’s been kind of fun. So, if you’re interested, here’s the link to my Picture of the Day Picasa album (it’s also on our blog roll), and if you’re not interested I hate you forever :) Just kidding. I’m almost as afraid someone will look at it as I am that no one will, so if you’re not interested, bless you. If you are, bless you as well.

I love the mountains, I love the rolling hills, I love, wait… SNOW!!!

I’m also a fan of shoes. My own are my favorite because they mean I’m going somewhere, but I’m not really all that particular when it comes right down to it.

Mommy’s pregnant. I have no idea yet what this means for my future plans at being the center of attention, but for now I’m okay with it.

We took on a giant apple… and won!!! Daddy brought home apples one day and there was one nearly as big as my head. Daddy and I battled it to the death. It was pretty tasty. Even with random knife holes in it.

Daddy’s hat is a great toy.

This drawer is a great place to play when it’s available. Most of the time it’s behind the bed, but today it was out and a perfect place to read Benjamin in Budapest.

Family Picture

Since we’re really bad about taking family pictures and getting them to people, here’s a picture we had a friend take on Sunday. It happened to have all three of us in it, so I’m posting it for all of you who like such things. Sorry it’s so casual.
