I have a friend who had a baby about a week and a half ago. It all went super smoothly for them – she was induced early afternoon, had an epidural a couple hours later when she was 5 cm dilated, and the baby was born a little before 5:00 PM. They were pretty happy about it. It was encouraging to me because I have all these friends and people in my life that are so incredibly vocal about natural childbirth and even home birth that you’d almost believe that these options are THE right way to have a baby. It gets a little annoying. As if these are the only ways to have a positive birthing experience. It’s nice to be reminded occasionally that people have wonderful birth experiences in hospitals, induced, medicated, even c-section just as often, probably even more often than otherwise.
Just so we’re clear, I have nothing against natural childbirth… it just bugs me when people act like it’s the only way to go. And yes, I really do know someone who loved their C-section.
